Welcome to ICMA web page
The International Commission on the Middle Atmosphere (ICMA) is one of the 10 Commissions making up the International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science (IAMAS), which in turn is one of the 8 Associations constituting the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG).
The IUGG meets in a worldwide Assembly every four years (...2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019,..). The individual IUGG associations also meet every four years (...2009, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019,..). ICMA has generally met alternately with the Scientific Assemblies of IAMAS and the International Association of Aeronomy and Geomagnetism (IAGA).
ICMA exists to foster international cooperation in research into the science of the middle atmosphere, defined loosely as stretching from the tropopause into the lower thermosphere. In addition to holding its biennial meetings in conjunction with IUGG, IAMAS or IAGA, ICMA sponsors or cosponsors other meetings and workshops. ICMA also has a number of working groups to facilitate cooperation in particular areas.
In place of the cancelled BACO-21 Joint Assembly, IAMAS, IACS and IAPSO will be hosting a joint online seminar series on 19-23 July 2021. This will feature presentations by the Association early career award winners for 2021 and invited speakers on the broad topics of remote sensing, field observations, modelling and coupled process of change in the atmosphere, cryosphere and oceans. Registration for this seminar series will be free; details of how to register will be announced soon in IUGG and Association newsletters and at the web https://cryosphericsciences.org/vaco-21/.
